Ever since this juvenile emerged, it has rarely stopped screeching. High-pitched sounds signal its need for attention; low-pitched sounds indicate hunger. It will consume most meat, although it shows a preference for fish. As it grows, the crest on its head develops from a small, sloping rise of bone to a high, curved ridge. It enjoys flying and will pounce on any small, moving object.
