Found in the mountain range that encircles the very steppe where Stepa Safidos dwell, the Arda Vosto is an incredibly dangerous predator that hunts both ovines and other prey animals with vicious might. The species has an intriguing split of features, with some Arda Vostos displaying two furred tails, thick manes, and horns while others possess a single tail but display numerous fleshy appendages. The former tend to hunt in small prides on the steppe, whereas the latter are more commonly found deep in mountainous caverns where they lure in prey with bright bioluminescence. During breeding season, the prides gather among the foothills and mix freely, with males fighting over females for mating privileges and then patrolling the birthing grounds to scare away potential dangers until the cubs are old enough to move. Cubs featuring either combination of traits may be born in the same litter but will be separated when it comes time to leave, with each cub being adopted by a pride with similar characteristics, ensuring they will have the greatest chance of survival.
The creatures that dwell in this rather desolate world still display some diversity in appearance, eating habits, and social behavior. Whether they have fur or feathers, skin or scales, their unique genetic makeup allows for a variety of colors and markings within each species. Despite limitations in food sources, herbivores, omnivores, and carnivores are all present in the food chain, and each species requires specialized care within a laboratory. Although the artificial setting of housing units and breeding pods precludes most opportunities to study true interspecific behavior, the interactions within and between species has been studied extensively in the wilderness by scientists daring enough to venture beyond the outpost’s walls.
