This juvenile has been able to swim since it emerged and sometimes paddles around its nest for fun, nibbling at bits of floating vegetation nearby. After a few weeks of remaining near the nest under one parent’s watchful eyes while the other brings food, it is finally allowed to follow them to the shore to join in the hunt. It seems to enjoy chasing after its parents and trying to snap up insects that are lured in by its parents’ colorful plumage.
