When this juvenile first emerges, tiny nubs are present just behind its big, wide eyes. Small fins on its back and tail allow for movement in its aquatic environment as the juvenile develops. Over time, the little nubs develop into forelimbs. Though it still prefers to swim, it sometimes can be found crawling over the soft substrate looking for tidbits.
