Shy and timid, this juvenile prefers to nap hidden among tall grass or underbrush. When very young, it is quite gangly and a bit wobbly on its legs, rarely straying far from its mother’s side. Its muscles develop as it grows, and it becomes more bold, prancing about, racing with other juveniles, and even practicing headbutting. Although it consumes only milk, it will sometimes nibble at delicate grass blades.
